Introduction to new campaign: the Lay of Thund the Impatient

The information bellow is all the information that can be gathered in Falkirk, by any sources (old sailors, the Admiralty, books), about the North:

The North:

The sea.

A fast hot current that strokes the northern coast from a south eastern direction creates an unfrozen bay all year long. Nothing is known of the bay’s size or geography.

Sailing north of Sjaeland can be extremely dangerous due to floating ice, especially during the late spring and early ice.

The coast beyond the border of Sjaeland is extremely jagged and steep. It is the home of the norsemen clan, but those settlements have not been recorded by any explorer, and are possibly not permanent.

Sjaeland

·        Sjaeland is the northern-most country that follows the Thelemian faith. All the coast north of it is jagged and uncharted.

·        The official church is an independent church that has withdrawn from the council of Plancy. There is no central church structure, the temples are run by several orders of Friars that are extremely active as teachers and spiritual leaders in their societies. The church of Sjaeland is extremely ascetic and it is thus considered as a great challenge for young courageous monks and adventurous priests.

·        Sjaeland is ruled by an elected parliament known as the Althing. Local territories, known as Things elect one representative to represent them in the Althing. The Althing is not a permanent structure and is summoned only when the need arises or once year after the summer solstice.

·        There is a minority of converted norsemen in the country, known as Conversus. They sometimes lives in their own villages, but are known to join Friar orders, something most of them consider an obligation, even if they do not stick to an ascetic life

Linddeth

·        Linddeth Isle is a small island off the northern coast of Sjaeland.

·        It is a small whaling community and despite it’s size it is the most established provider of whale oil to the rest of the world.

·        Other than the Norsemen they are considered the most experienced sailors of the northern sea.

·        The community of Linddeth is extremely secretive and it is not known to which church it adhere, though they claim to be fervent Thelemians. They are in equally good terms with the church of the Magnus and the Independent churches.

Bircu

·        On the south-eastern coast of the Island of Linddeth there used to be a trading settlement, known as Bircu.

·        It was the most active trade center between humans and Norsemen in the summers, but it was mostly abandoned during the winter.

·        The only year round residents were the inhabitants of the Cathedral of the Seekers of God. The Cathedral, built to guard a very important relic, the head of King Aelfric, the man who converted Sjaeland, Fynn and Burnholm to the Thelemian church.

·        The temple was run by an order of monks, mostly Conversus, but since the withdrawal of the norsemen the fate of the monastery is not known in Ygdree. The church of Sjaeland possibly retains some contact with the Cathedral.
